Thank you Thank you Thank you. It was a Terrific party. I have the Sally Field syndrome – “You like me! You really like me! But I know the truth of the matter is, “If you feed them, they will come.” I am amending my list to certainly acknowledge that Roy Chase had taken the rating slips that I used as scratch paper to write hands and calculated all those fractions of points and mailed them in to ACBL. Thanks to Roy I have far more points than otherwise. And 16 tables without chocolate. I thought I had lost Joyce. But she said one of the best parties ever.

Diamond Life Master Party and Charity Game
When I started duplicate bridge back in the early 70′s and was awarded .01 for placing at the Officer’s Wives Club and found out from Marcel Leek that it took 300 FULL points in various pigmentation to achieve the rank of Lifemaster ( aha! I did not even put that in my mind as achievable; I merely wanted to get good at that game. So, I went to Basset Center and spent $40. on bridge books when $40 was money). Then, I left for Korea. I partnered the wife of the American Ambassador!!!!
When I returned, I went to work at then, Texas Western College where I had the good fortune to be mentored by Ervin Pfeiffle!!! (in duplicate) and earn several free plays at the game owned by Rose and her genius son, Bob Black and later travel with them as teams and long time with Rose as partner (Thank you so, so much).
Then I learned a lot from a volatile partnership with Denny Moore–especially my love for the big club and canape. Almost got expelled from the Club. (Thanks to General Powell for the warning) …and along came Pat.
Oh I do LIKE THIS GAME AND YOU PEOPLE AND I want to Thank and identify certain people who contributed so much time and patience with me on this journey: First and foremost: Dick LeClaire who taught me so much and who I miss so much, Chuck Duke for he tolerance and his wife Maisie for the same. Robin, for her incredible love and friendship. Pat and Tom LaRocca. Sully. Joycie Pooh.. Denny, Ervin,. Frances Lawrence. Steve Nordberg,. Ralph,. Scott, Nancy Leolos, Rose Black. Peggy Craig, Bob Craig. Terry Swegler, Linda Spengler, Lorraine O’Donnell, Don Klenke, Bernice Williams, Betty Manross, Gordon, Selina, Peter .Gerald, Esch. Additionally, I want to thank Anthony Bianchi AKA Ed White who played in a Masters’ Pairs with me and we won 50 GOLD points!

To mark this event, Rose and Flo are sponsoring a luncheon on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 in conjunction with the Unit Charity Championship, 11:00 a.m. In deference to my healthy lifestyle, luncheon consists of vegetables, fruits, proteins but not desserts or breads ( per Rose) not my doing.
Love to see you there. If I can do it, anyone can.

Today we are honoring Barbara Harrid as our own Diamond Life Master
You’ve climbed the ladder that we call “success”
You’ve acquired the required points in your quest
As you’ve used your wits some call it a “brain” in outwitting opponents
You’ve played your great game.
When we play against you think we’ve made a great call
When much to our chagrin find it wasn’t at all
And we are down three -0r down four?
Or – Oh my goodness could it be even more?
We salute and admire you maybe envy you too
But we’re also proud you’re in our club’s Who’s Who
And now, Barbara, you know you’re one of the “Best”
Can’t you just sit back let us have a rest?
Or will you press on and at some point “Go Green”
