Below is the convention called Christian that is used after a penalty double of 1NT.

CHRISTIAN

Christian is used when an opening 1NT or an overcall of 1NT is doubled for penalty.  If the double  is a conventional double showing a suited hand, Christian is not in use.  Over the conventional double, most people play all systems on.  Double would be Stayman (similar to stolen bid), and all transfers would be on.

Using the Christian convention, EVERYTHING is a transfer.

-          Pass – transfer to redouble (after the redouble, with values the partner of the 1NT bidder may pass; with no values the partner of the 1NT bidder will begin bidding 4-card suits up the line)

-          Redouble – transfer to 2C (shows five or more clubs)

-          2C – transfer to 2D (shows five or more diamonds)

-          2D – transfer to 2H (shows five or more hearts)

-          2H – transfer to 2S ((shows five or more spades)
