Many thanks to Maura Cauldwell and Beverly Thrasher, our indefatigable tournament chairs for our recent sectional.  Yes, the tournament and the turnout was small, even the absence of many local players who support the regular weekly games, but that did not dampen the spirits of the participants or the dedicated committees who helped Maura and Beverly put on another financially successful tournament.  Kudos to Bob Craig, our Director, and to Arline Yonack and her committee--Maria Elena Norte and Rosli Duffy--for all the homemade cakes, the numerous homemade dips and cookies, all the commercial foods that donations provided, and the hamburgers and chicken "things" from Fudruckers.  Thanks to Rose Black, our supply chairman, and those clean cards, complete bidding boxes, lined trash cans, table cloths, and all the extras she arranged to be transferred from our Bridge Center.  And we cannot forget the efforts of Peter Peca, willing to find partners for those who didn't have them.  It's true that out of town participation, despite our extensive publicity, was pathetic:  not a soul from Carlsbad or Roswell, one or two from western New Mexico and Albuquerque, and far too few from even Las Cruces.  We have to place the blame on the price of gasoline, but let's count how many El Pasoans turn out for the next Carlsbad and Las Cruces tournaments; after all, the highway goes north and south, east and west!    Robert Esch
